Christopher believed in God, that there is a Devil and a Heaven and Hell. He, along with some of his close relatives believed in reincarnation. Christopher was a strong believer that sinners are called for reckoning on their final Day of Judgement.

Eternity is part of ourselves. Time involves the material universe, but reality is a mystery beyond our perceptions. Ages come and go, and we know little about consciousness. We await somebody who can step out from the masses with new perceptions of life rather than follow the crowd - like Christ - courage is rare.

Father Cresswell officiated mother’s funeral at St. Clements Church in Oxford. Mother would have noted the absence of children at her service. Christenings, funerals and weddings are events for all ages to experience. Painted in 1981.

Satan cast into hell due to his own pride. Power and arrogance are soon converted into ignorance and oblivion. There are many stories of the creation, but the devil’s fate is one of the best of many stories. The devil wonders through the universe, causing mischief wherever he can. He even finds followers who become his allies and are impressed by his self-deception and cunningness. Mankind has devilish propensities. Painted in 1986.

Silent prayer may be incredibly loud and intimate. Silent prayer, or even a moment of silence, is practiced in many cultures by people of different religions and those who have no religious affiliations. This silence is not a vacuum, though; it is often filled with quiet hope, or a deep desire to still the heart of fear. Painted in 1982.

The crown of thorns come with everyone's birth. The first prick is felt with the baby's first breath. The crown will surround him all his life - and more often than not, the thorn will be mankind itself. The baby is nearer to God than he will ever be till death, and the habits and desires of people will soon be his own too. All come and go through the mystery of life. All is Gods, and total awareness of God is total consciousness. Hell is the reverse side of the coin - cynicism, arrogance. No one should take life's gifts for granted or loss faith. This thorn is common in the outback. Painted in 1982.

In early days, the albatross was said to be the soul of dead mariners. Indeed, life is a voyage, hopefully of discovery - many fail, few succeed. All depend on the goodwill within the crew of the ship. The albatross represents the cross of suffering - all life has to learn that to live. Painted in 1982.

Where there's a vicar there is often a viper. The penchant for choir boy or elderly widow is insatiable for some of them. All Saints Church Leighton Buzzard. Painted in 1986.

The tomb of Lazarus was his own mind and body. Christ described death as sleep and miraculously reinvigorates him. Compassion helps people live more fully. All religions offer hope to the bereaved. With all of Lazarus's wealth, nobody would exchange it for life and worries. Painted in 1983.
